A Woodwork afternoon designed especially for the V&A.

- EXCITING BESPOKE CORPOATE AWAY DAY HOSTED FOR THE NATIONAL GRID’S SENIOR LEADERSHIP TEAM JUNE 2024

An exciting woodworking activity suitable for a group of 20 with zero woodworking knowledge as well as those with experience. Agreed date: 9th July 2025

Takeaway: Everyone will come away with their own handmade wooden hook rack.

Skills: Planning, sawing, decorative techniques, drilling and product finishing technique.

Teaching style: Full group intro followed by a 4 stage round robin (4 x groups of 5) followed by a full group glue and assembly stage. The afternoon will conclude with a finishing demo and opportunity for everyone to oil their projects.

Lula James - Woodworking Creative will supply:

  • Use of top quality hand tools including jack planes, blocks planes, japanese saws, brace ‘n’ bits and other western and Japanese tools for use by all participants.

  • Sustainably sourced timber for 20 people to complete the set project. All timber will be temperate hardwoods and native where possible. Participants will have limited choice over their wood selection and be able to try different timbers during the short course.

  • Finishing Demo and supply of sustainable and VOC free Odie’s oil for the participants to use on their products.

  • Bespoke course designed especially to suit the V&A’s Design and Print department and meet the requirements and budget of the V&A.

  • Use of woodworking aprons.

  • 2 experienced woodwork Tutors. Daisy and Andrew.

  • Wood or ply to go on top of supplied tables for protection if necessary.

Requirements to make everything possible:

  • V&A must supply the space to run the course. This will help to keep the cost within budget. An alternative is to rent a hall for Lula James - woodworking creative to host in.

  • V&A must supply study tables/workbenches for 20 students.

Cost:

  • £1700 dependent on V&A supplying the space and work tables.
